Adobe has announced the launch of Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 with a range of enhanced stereoscopic features most specifically in Adobe After Effects CS 5.5.

Adobe After Effects CS5.5 cameras can now automatically be turned into stereoscopic 3D rigs – which creates nested compositions of left and right eyes (so you can output left and right videos separately) with controls over stereo depth and distance. It appears that the 3D Glasses effect has been updated now giving users the ability to view stereoscopic content using active or passive stereoscopic glasses, such as Nvidia 3D Vision or as previously old school red cyan anaglyphic glasses.

I’ll be interested to see how well the new 3D glasses effect & stereo 3d rig cameras work – having spent the last 18 months working with a custom rig and having developed a very specific workflow I wonder if this system will be able to work around a few of the challenges I haven’t quite cracked.
