1. Run the Disk Cleanup tool

The easiest way to free up disk space in Windows 7 is to run the Disk Cleanup tool to remove different types of temporary files.
To run Disk Cleanup, run the following
- Open Windows Explorer and locate the disc.
- Click the disk with the right mouse button and select Properties.
- Click Disk Cleanup in the new window.
- Opens the tool from which you can choose which files to delete.

2. Uninstall unnecessary programs

One of the easiest ways to recover disk space is to uninstall the programs that are not used.
This solution is particularly useful in the case of laptops that are usually sold off many useless programs installed.
To see which programs are installed on your computer and remove them you must open the Control Panel and click Uninstall a program.

3. Turn off Windows features that are not used

4. Disable the Security System

If you decide to disable System Restore, you can do so using these steps:
  1. Right click My Computer and click Properties.
  2. From the System Properties window, click the System Protection tab.
  3. Select the drive for which you want to disable System Protection and click Configure.
  4. Click Turn off system protection.
  5. Click OK.

Disable Hibernate feature

Hibernation feature is enabled by default in Windows 7 and is found among the options when you click Shut Down.
When the feature is enabled on the disk file is created Hiberfil.sys that can use large so if you do not use this feature you can disable it.
To disable hibernation and must run the following command from a command prompt.
To disable Hibernate, Type the following command, and hit Enter:
powercfg /hibernate off
